10 New Technologies You Probably Won't Want to Buy Yet.
10 utterly wonderful technologies you shouldn't buy yet
I disagree with #9, USB-C. I have this on my Swift Canyon Intel NUC Micro-PC, and combined with the right hard drives, it delivers lightning-fast data and backup file transfers. Also would work wonders for large media file transfers. Does nothing for transfers involving Network Drives (NAS). The NUC has internal hardware which does support Super-Speed data transfers across this interface. The cable issues have been (mostly) ironed out now -- just don't buy super-cheap ones from eBay or Amazon Marketplace sellers.

Microsoft Windows 10 IT Analytic Tool
A new Microsoft tool shows how Win 10 might affect devices

Reminds me of the Upgrade Assistant for individuals and small businesses. (I recommend using the Upgrade Assistant for the Anniversary Upgrade to avoid some nasty surprises.) Basically, these tools tell you whether your hardware and some applications can make the upgrade (relatively) intact. There's also both a hardware and a limited software Windows 10 (AU) Compatibility List at Microsoft. These lists include AV programs which are known not to be working with Win 10 AU.

More details on upcoming MS Edge Browser Virtualization (Containerization) (also known as MS Windows Defender Application Guard for Edge):

Windows 10 will soon run Edge in a virtual machine to keep you safe

http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2016/09/windows-10-will-soon-run-edge-in-a-virtual-machine-to-keep-you-safe/?NL=WIN-01&Issue=WIN-01_20160927_WIN-01_566&sfvc4enews=42&cl=article_5_3

I don't know for sure, but I would expect Google and Mozilla to update Chrome and Firefox Browsers to do something similar. And many security products are being developed to do this sort of Browser Virtualization. It's just that Edge is putting this feature into the Windows OS itself when used with their own Edge Browser. No one outside Microsoft can do this right now, due to the Closed Source nature of Windows.

 Cutting the Cable

This is a good article, but not for the intended reason. Let me elaborate:

No, You Won't Get Everything

Understatement of the century.
If like me you get most of your entertainment form live TV form network affiliates, PBS affiliates and local channels, and you have no OTA signals in your location, cord cutting is not a reasonable possibility. (I recently moved, and lack of reliable OTS signals is certainly the case where I now live.)
Streaming of network prime-time content is so spotty, and the full-access apps and web sites are so expensive, it makes no sense to try to roll your own bundle without a Cable or Phone Company or Satellite contract. The price  of stand-alone Internet Service is three to five times the bundle price (depending on tier and monthly actual usage), so that cost negates any savings from cancelling TV services altogether.
AT&T lets you get 45 MBPS Internet service cheaply, but only if you also get Direct TV and/or AT&T Wireless for your home phone.
And that's another drawback of cord-cutting. Where's your phone service coming from? All wireless all the time? Might just as well bundle with AT&T. Third-party VOIP? Good luck getting through to emergency services! The options are out there, but the more I look into them, the less attractive the cord-cutting options become.
My only choice if the all-wired UVerse services are discontinued by AT&T would be to switch to Comcast Cable (XFinity). I don't like AT&T as a Wireless carrier, and I have heard similar complaints from my neighbors of signal issues with Direct TV as I experience with OTA reception.
AT&T is simply not being realistic, unless their Powerline Gigabit Internet Service will come with allowances for lots of streaming TV services, including Direct TV's streaming service. (This is not their On DEmand or DVR after the fact features, but a full-service -- supposedly -- streaming version of Direct TV.) Then again, Direct TV can and does lose channels all the time, and local OTA channels may not be available for streaming.
BTW, related, CBS-2 in Chicago has once again changed their actual broadcast channel. They are only available on the still-VHF Channel 8, with no UHF Translator alternative at all. Bunch of boneheaded dinosaurs, those folks are! Reception is more limited than ever before. And the All-Access and CBS Local Apps are very limited in what they offer. Defintely not truly all-access at all!
