Re. FYI #771 (Thurs., Nov. 17, 2016)
How to connect a Linux machine to Google Cloud Print
My Epson XP410 all in one had OEM software which could be downloaded for all major OSes to do this job via a Wizard. Other manufacturers also have CloudPrint setup Wizards. But it's always nice to know how to do it yourself if you insist.

Fake or Malicious PC Maintenance Tools
I won't mention the specific site/software which was referenced in this FYI issue. It's a fake PC maintenance program and one of many of its kind making the rounds lately. I consider it to be a disservice to the User Group community to publicize the name of just one of these as if it were the only scam out there.
Generally, if you can't verify the publisher of any program or the owner of the site, click away ASAP. (Unfortunately, this policy would have prevented me from downloading and using O&O ShutUp 10, which is a useful Windows 10 privacy controls utility. The program's publishers are shadowy and not a single entity.)

Re. FYI #772 (Fri., Nov. 18, 2016)
Apple’s automated backups are making every iPhone owner vulnerable
Automated Cloud Backup which can't be turned off? Deal-killer for me ever considering an iPhone.

Adata SE730 External SSD
Speed and capacity unimpressive. Price per gigabyte over my budget. Web site referenced by this link unreadable due to inscessant stream of popover ads. And this was using Firefox with ad blocking in Linux.

Five reasons it's time to start using a GPS bike computer
Great. So now I can be tracked even when I'm on a bike ride. And I have to buy an expensive new device for the privilege. No thanks.

Add Wi-Fi And Bluetooth Streaming To Your Stereo For A Price You Won't Believe
"Pure recently stopped its own streaming service..." Why buy equipment for a dead service when Sonos offers all of this, and a still-supported streaming service for whole-house audio streaming? Sonos uses "WiFi, not Bluetooth" but for my money, WiFi for this purpose is superior to Bluetooth technology. This WiFi works with virtually any device as the controller.

ZHPCleaner is a software to remove Browser Hijackers & restore Proxy settings

Didn't we just get a FYI posting warning against downloading these new, untested, rarely if ever reviewed cleanup utilities from shady web sites whose owners refuse to identify themselves?

Pocket-Size Device Lets You Print from Anywhere
Kickstarter projects seldom make it into general production, leaving them orphaned. Like hand-held portable scanners, I cannot imagine this thing having good alignment when in use on just any paper on just any surface. It needs thorough testing and professional reviews before I would buy it, even if it had a price tag. There is no pricing or general release to manufacturing date in the article or at the fundraising page.

It's the law: Electric cars must make noise after September 2019
I can't tell you how many times my hybrid Prius has been so quiet that I've startled pedestrians and deer while driving at slow speeds or down hills. And that's not entirely all-electric.

Meet PoisonTap, the $5 tool that ransacks password-protected computers

$5 'PoisonTap' USB Exploit Easily Cracks Sleeping Macs, PCs
I don't understand the technical ins and outs of this discussion. But clearing the browser cache, closing the browser when the device lid is closed, and scanning with Malwarebytes and other scanners, should mitigate the chances of such an attack succeeding, shouldn't it?
And then there's the physical access solution -- never leave a device unattended, especially if it's not completely powered down, anywhere except at home, and there only if no one is coming and going.

Intel may add Wi-Fi, USB 3.1 to next-generation chipsets (the Wi-Fi I don't think is good as the Wi-Fi standards have been rapidly changing to improve communications.  Once in the chip, its fixed and accelerates obsolescence of the device.  The way it is in most current systems is a card that can be easily on most systems (excluding smartphones and tablets) to keep them up with the newest standards.  As to the USB 3.1, this could be a great upgrade to newer systems, but old tower desktops might be upgradable with a plug in card. )

Sling TV channel guide: All the programming, and all the restrictions, all in one chart

This is good info, but I don't use SlingTV. In fact, I consider this branch of Sing to be a bit of a ripoff. You can get more content cheaper from other sources. I use my Sling Box M2, which is an entirely different of the Sling organization, and doesn't cost a subscription fee. It does require a cable box or DVR, and those are by subscription only.

TURN YOUR COMPUTER INTO A TOUCHSCREEN WITH AIRBAR

I've read reviews of previous models of this type of adapter, and they don't work very well, and fit rather poorly. There is no size either for 16 inch widescreen laptops or tablets less than 13 inches. Which counts me out for all my devices.

Kaspersky accuses Microsoft of anticompetitive bundling of antivirus software

Hey AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile -- your days may be numbered

This looks like a good idea until you envision hundreds of such mesh networks competing with each other for the same access to local connection resources. Then the problem is less one of congestion, and more one of interference. The FCC regulates the airwares for a reason. You cannot simply "create [new] bandwidth out of thin air" as the article suggests.
